DRAGOON PERCUSSION REVOLVER, "LT. M. HALL". Cal. 31. S# 2564. Standard configuration, 4" octagonal barrel, correct "2-line New York City address with brackets", no provision for loading assembly, left side of frame has small "COLTS PATENT", silver plated square back brass trigger guard & backstrap, varnished walnut grip, 5-shot cylinder with rolled "dragoon & Indian fight scene". Backstrap has 2-line inscription "Presented to Lieut. M. Hall / by his Lady Friends". Presentation baby dragoons are very rare. This is Colt's first revolver made after the Paterson models. Housed in a fine original early "Paterson style" bevel casing compartmentalized for "COLTS PATENT" eagle flask, 2 cavity "COLT PATENT" brass mold, & green label Ely cap tin. CONDITION: very good-fine overall, appears all original & matching throughout, all matching S#s, strong traces of factory blue on barrel & cylinder, fire blue on trigger, about 70% original varnish, grip frame retains about 50% original silver plate. Walnut casing is equally good with soiled and stained blue velvet lining, accessories very good. Mechanically fine, crisp shiny rifled bore. (01-28172/JS). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
